Title: Creative Statements: Ohio Art Quilts 2012
Open to all SAQA Ohio Members

Exhibit Concept

This exhibition will explore the various purposes of art in the creative statements made in the work of art quilters living in Ohio. Successful participants will provide a short Artist Statement about their work which will be displayed next to their art quilt.

Juror:

Kathleen Loomis was the winner of the Quilt National Japan Prize in 2009. She was the founder and juror of Form Not Function: Art Quilts at the Carnegie at the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana from 2004 to 2010. In addition, she has exhibited at Color Exhibitions, Stuttgart, Germany, and Fiber Art International 2010, Society for Contemporary Crafts, Pittsburgh, PA. In recent years Kathleen's work has focused largely on political themes such as the war in Iraq as well as other dangers, disappointments and failures of modern society.

Eligibility and Guidelines:

Artist must be a member of SAQA Ohio.
SAQA members may submit up to 3 entries.
Each Entry consists of either a large or small single work, as well as three dimensional work or an installation. There are no size limitations. There is no date limit for any works. No dangerous items may be incorporated into artwork.

Artwork must meet the SAQA definition of an art quilt: A contemporary artwork exploring and expressing aesthetic concerns common to the whole range of visual arts: painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, assemblage and sculpture, which retains, through material or technique, a clear relationship to the folk art quilt from which it descends.

Artist is responsible for shipping work to The Zanesville Museum of Art. Art work may also be hand delivered to the Museum.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

During the online registration process, you will be asked to upload artist information, digital images and information about each work. Once you begin you submission, you will need to complete your entry in one session. Here is a checklist of what you will need to provide:

An artist statement of 50 words.

Digital Images:
• Submit one overall DIGITAL image and one detail DIGITAL image for each work. If submitting an installation work, provide one overall image of the installation, as it should be hung, and a detail image of your choice.
• Save your digital images as a high quality JPEG file (No TIFF files).

Information about each work:

Size: Height x width, in inches
Materials: (25 words or less)
Techniques: (25 words or less)

You will be asked to agree with these Terms and Conditions:
I agree to loan my artwork to the Zanesville Museum of Art. Quilts accepted for exhibition will be on loan to the Museum, handled by Museum staff and insured under the Museum's Fine Art Insurance Policy. I understand that the costs of insuring and shipping my artwork to and from The Zanesville Museum of Art in Zanesville, Ohio are my responsibility. I further agree to permit the images or detail images and/or all or part of my artists statement to be used in the exhibit catalog, articles, ads, promotion, books, websites, CD's, current event news coverage, television productions, and/or multi media productions for and about the exhibit. It should be noted that several SAQA Ohio artists permitted images of their work to be utilized in the exhibition proposal without remuneration. In gratitude, their work will automatically be included in the exhibition.

Fee

US$25 for up to three entries. Members must pay their fees using a credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express) though the SAQA Store.
